Guyabano (soursop)

Guyabano (from the Spanish guanábana) is also known locally as ‘soursop’. It is one of the many fruits that arrived in the Phillipines from Latin America during Spanish colonial times hundreds of years ago.

The fruit’s white and juicy flesh is normally eaten fresh or as juice, perhaps in a fruit shake. The flavour is very aromatic and not everyone likes it. Also thought to have medicinal properties.

Annona muricata is a small, upright, evergreen tree that grows up to 8-9m tall.
